Aerial Paintings

This series of paintings are based initially on photographs that I have taken in flight. I am inspired by the dichotomy between flattened planes or patterns and the abstract perception of height and distant space. Seeing the world from this vantage is a naturally occurring way to observe nature in its abstract form. I am not beholden to the composition of the photo but motivated more by the animated shapes and dialogues that evolve in the painted picture plane. I like to engage the play between vast expanse versus the finite boundaries and resources that define and form our contemporary world, one where satellites images and maps have simultaneously broadened our views and narrowly defined them.
